#hellodigital comes to Dunoon

Digital technology is increasingly changing how we live, work and study – and a new initiative in Dunoon is set to help local people find out all about latest equipment and skills.

Highland and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is bringing #hellodigital to the town. It’s a six month ‘pop-up’ digital demonstration centre opening in October. You’ll find it docked at The Fairmile Building on the Sandbank Business Park.  The events are free to attend – some are open to all, some to an invited business only audience.

The programme kicks off on Monday 2nd October with an exciting open launch event.  Experts from Google Digital Garage will talk to businesses, social enterprises and community groups about digital innovations coming over the hill and give a chance to get hands on with 360 cameras, virtual reality and augmented reality.

Liza Moran from the HIE Argyll Office said “We are delighted to be bringing #hellodigital to Dunoon. It was launched in Inverness last year and more than two thousand people from across the region have already gone along to sessions which show how new technology can help their project’s grow.

“There’s a real demand locally to be able to access sessions like this within Argyll.  It’s especially relevant for people living outwith Scotland’s big cities, as we rely more and more on digital technologies but have fewer opportunities to keep up with developments.”

If you can’t make the launch there is a programme of interesting events extending into next March.  The sessions will be held at the Dunoon Digital Dock in The Fairmile Building at the Sandbank Business Park. The Digital Dock is a large suite which has been kitted out with a maritime theme, where HIE and Business Gateway will host digital workshops and seminars.

Experts will deliver each event, helping us to appreciate current trends, learn how on-line behaviour is set to change, and to keep pace with technologies that are quickly becoming widely adopted – such as Virtual Reality, 360O cameras, beacons and sensors.

What’s more, HIE is offering short term single desk hire packages within the Digital Dock. Individuals starting up businesses, or people looking to work remotely, have the chance to rent, short-term, a desk space within the IT focussed Digital Dock.  And for businesses looking for more room, there is still opportunity to rent bespoke office space within the purpose built Fairmile Building and to benefit from joining an existing group of like-minded tech businesses.

We are expecting local businesses and individuals to book up these free to attend opportunities quickly. So to find out more about what’s on offer at #hellodigital over the next few months and to secure your places, please visit
