Today (Thurs 13 Mar 2014), the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, the UK body supporting innovation and rapid commercialisation in offshore wind, wave and tidal technologies, published an economic impact study of the offshore renewable energy industry in the UK.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) welcomes the finding of this study.
Calum Davidson, Director of Energy and Low Carbon at HIE, said: "There are significant opportunities presented by offshore renewables and the Highlands and Islands is well placed to capitalise on these. We look forward to continuing to work with the ORE Catapult in advancing innovation and technology development."
According to the report, the UK economy could gain £6.7bn per year and 150,000 jobs by 2020 from the development of offshore renewable energy resources.
