Muir of Ord community hub opens

Thursday 27 July saw the formal opening of a new community hub in Muir of Ord, by HRH the Princess Royal.

The Muir of Ord Hall & Facilities Company has refurbished and extended the Old Tarradale School, to create the Muir Hub, a new community owned facility.

The hub offers social and learning opportunities for 3,300 residents, as well as visitors to the village.

A café in the building operated by social enterprise the Calman Trust, provides training and employment opportunities for disadvantaged young people.

The hub also includes a heritage and information centre, an auditorium, IT facilities and meeting space for groups to socialise.

The development attracted a £1million award from The Big Lottery Fund in 2014. This was followed in early 2015 by HIE’s approval of a £70,000 contribution. The total package also included contributions from Muir of Ord Community Association and The Highland Council.
