Gaelic Labour Market Research to be undertaken

Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Skills Development Scotland and Bòrd na Gàidhlig have commissioned ekosgen, economic development consultants, to develop an evidence base for the Gaelic language labour market.

This work will inform future decisions about public sector skills policy and investment. Part of the work involves gaining the views of both private and public sector employers. The study aims to better understand the current and future need for Gaelic language skills in the workforce, employer recruitment methods and the challenges faced by employers around recruitment to Gaelic posts.

As part of the study, a skills survey is being conducted which will assess current and likely future Gaelic language skills needs.  Ultimately, the research will provide a strong and robust evidence base with which to inform skills planning for those sectors of the economy which have a need for Gaelic language skills.
