Ski centres set to promise snow

Three Highland ski centres are set to promise snow this winter. HIE has approved more than £1.2m investment in snow making equipment at Cairngorm, the Lecht and Glencoe.

The Lecht and Glencoe have already taken delivery of new Snow Factory machines. These will guarantee a start date to the skiing season and help maintain snow cover during periods when there is a lack of natural snow.

A snow making machine and eight snow cannons will be installed at Cairngorm at the end of November, and up and running within a week. This will guarantee snow on the lower beginner slopes, and enable ski tows to take skiers to the upper slopes when conditions there are good.

HIE supported trials of the technology at all three centres during last season, with positive results.
