The region’s food and drink goes global at Showcasing Scotland

Food and drink companies from the Highlands and Islands are in Gleneagles this week showcasing their products to UK and international buyers at Showcasing Scotland 2017.

The event brings together Scottish food and drink producers to network, build relationships and secure future business contracts with national and international buyers.

Taking place 3-4 October in Gleneagles, Perthshire, this is the third large ‘Meet the Buyer’ event and brings together 145 Scottish companies and 150 key national and international exporters who are looking for Scottish products to enhance their existing offering.

Scottish companies that participated in the last Showcasing Scotland in 2015 predicted increased sales of over £33 million from the new connections established. This year participating businesses are looking to exceed that figure.

Elaine Jamieson, head of food and drink at Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), said: “The food and drink sector in the Highlands and Islands is characterised by traditional and innovative high quality products and these businesses also show outstanding commitment to customers, staff, the region and the environment. Showcasing Scotland offers our ambitious food and drink businesses a fantastic opportunity to showcase their products to buyers from all over the world.”

Cabinet Secretary for the Rural Economy, Fergus Ewing said: “Scotland’s food and drink sector is one of the cornerstones of our economy and culture, and its quality is globally renowned. We want more of our food and drink businesses to sell more to growing markets at home and abroad in order to achieve the industry’s ambitions of doubling turnover by 2030.

“Enabling producers to engage with key buyers is fundamental to achieving that ambition and Showcasing Scotland has a track record of doing just that and delivering results for our producers.”

James Withers, Chief Executive of Scotland Food & Drink, said: “Showcasing Scotland is the most important trade event in our industry’s calendar.  It is a truly unique and outstanding opportunity for a number of our most innovative, established and emerging food and drink manufacturers.

“Beyond the commercial opportunity, the event will showcase Scotland's credentials as a Land of Food and Drink to key UK and global decision makers.  Based on previous years, this year looks set to continue the momentum for our industry and the scale now truly reflects our ambition to more than double the size of our sector to £30 billion by 2030.”

The event is being organised by Scottish Development International and Scotland Food & Drink with support from HIE and Scottish Government. It aims to grow sales of Scottish food and drink in UK and international markets through connecting suppliers with buyers and highlighting the top quality producers that give Scotland its reputation as a Land of Food and Drink.
