A small Gairloch company has teamed up with a sales and marketing specialist and a technologist to develop new image enhancement technology.
Ed Duncan and Andy Kinsey who started Pixic Ltd in Gairloch in 2008, have set up a new company called Imhanz which creates solutions aimed at the image processing markets in a range of industries including oil and gas, fish farming and medicine.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has awarded funding to support the venture with its research and development. The two technologists have over 20 years experience at the forefront of technology innovation, providing consultancy services for companies around the world as well as realising their ideas for new cutting edge camera technology.
Now they have joined forces with Ross Maxwell, another technologist with significant industrial experience and Angus Robinson, a sales and marketing specialist. The new technology will focus on enhancement and processing of digital images to improve their quality and broaden the areas of application.
Ed, who once pioneered cameras for mobile phones for companies including Nokia, said: “It’s great that we have the support from HIE to do this work right here in the Highlands. Our company is addressing a rapidly growing global market for imaging products and we are grateful for their support. This is an important step which will take image capture and analysis to the next level. We see Imhanz as being a focal point for this specialised technology with the potential to grow and offer long-term employment opportunities in the Highlands“.
With each of the partners possessing extensive experience in advancing new products in the imaging field and taking them to market, Imhanz has now started its development work which will result in working prototypes later this year.
The £115,000 package of financial assistance from HIE will help the company to develop the ambitious business from the small west Highland community.
Raine Maclennan, from HIE, said: “The four individuals are bringing together a wide range of technology and marketing skills to the new company and we are delighted to have worked with them over the years. Our backing offers an exciting opportunity for the business and HIE’s support will allow them to grow to the next level. We are also on hand with ongoing specialist advice to help the company bring their ideas to market around the world.”
