Events coming up in the weeks ahead focus on aquaculture, employee ownership, exporting, social media, Venturefest Scotland Innovation Summit, and the Strengthening Scotland’s Communities conference.

The Aqua Nor technology trade exhibition in takes place in Trondheim, Norway from 15 to 18 August. HIE is leading the Scottish delegation, in partnership with Scottish Development International (SDI), to create the first Scottish Pavilion at the event. Aqua Nor is held every two years. In 2015 it attracted more than 20,000 delegates and 550 exhibitors from 27 countries.

Improving productivity and innovation is the subject of an evening event at HIE’s office in An Lòchran on 31 August. Insightful discussion will be led by Professor Peter Totterdill and Rosemary Exton of Workplace Innovation, the international not-for-profit organisation committed to spreading good practice in the workplace.

An Lòchran is also the location of an event on 12 September focusing on the benefits of employee ownership and how to adopt this business model. Delegates will hear from successful local companies who have chosen employee ownership and from a local professional with expertise in guiding organisations through the process.

Exporting is covered in the Preparing to Export Introductory on 6 September in Inverness, followed by planning for Export Success on the 19th. There is also a Doing Business in the USA event on 21 September, also in Inverness.

Venturefest Scotland 2017, the annual summit on innovation takes place at the Glasgow Science Centre on 20 September. Designed to help high-growth Scottish SMEs and ambitious early-stage companies to grow through innovation, this event connects business owners, entrepreneurs, investors and innovators. It provides a platform for growing companies to find the tools, advice, funding and contacts they need to take their businesses to the next level.

The Strengthening Scotland’s Communities conference takes place in Aviemore on 21 and 22 September. This is aimed at communities, community development organisations and practitioners alongside intermediaries, enablers and policy makers from across Scotland.

Digital communication is covered in a social media workshop in Lochaber on 20 September and an Entrepreneurial Academy workshop, Executing Digital Strategy, in Inverness on 28 September.

The annual Highland Spotlight takes place in the Kingsmills Hotel on 26 September, showcasing companies from across the region.
